Philosophy

Polkadots Preschool strives to provide a warm, inviting environment that feels like an extension of home. We embrace a play based philosophy and provide an environment that inspires fun, curiosity and imagination.

Our philosophy respects ‘Te Tiriti o Waitangi’, by Kaiako modelling te reo Māori and te ao Māori in practise. We acknowledge and embrace the view of Hauora, in that all dimensions of an individuals health are nurtured to ensure an overall sense of positive wellbeing.

Our daily practise is underpinned by Te Whāriki. We promote an emergent curriculum that is moving, growing and developing daily - just as our tamariki do.

Children are nurtured, respected and acknowledged as individuals, in our inclusive environment. Diversity and the culture of our whanāu and rural community are embraced and celebrated in genuine respectful ways.

We embrace a primary caregiving approach and believe relationships and connections with our parents, whanāu and tamariki are of utmost importance to effectively plan learning experiences based on children’s interests, taking into account family aspirations, values and all aspects of a child’s growth and development.

Our environment provides for active, meaningful exploration through open ended activities and positive interactions enriched with opportunities to experience the social world where tamariki can extend their social skills through conversations, turn taking, working alongside others, negotiating and sharing.

Teachers engage in authentic interactions and empower children to be confident and curious learners, and communicators. We provide natural, authentic learning and environments to evoke skills and knowledge basis to grow into not only lifelong learners but positive members of society.
